§ 8.3. Building and Housing Codes

Latest version.
  • The use of building and housing codes could provide Meriwether County with a means of implementing the Land Use Plan through the establishment of minimum health, sanitary and safety requirements.

Housing codes prescribe the minimum conditions under which structures or parts thereof may be lawfully occupied as dwellings. Generally, they relate to such matters as: (1) minimum space per occupant, (2) basic sanitary equipment and facilities, (3) light and ventilation, (4) structural condition of buildings, (5) heating equipment, and (6) the safe and sanitary maintenance of buildings.

Building codes, unlike housing codes, pertain to the structural safety of buildings, their safety from fire, their durability, and the proper installation of plumbing and electrical equipment.
