The commercial areas depicted on the future land use plan map are designated areas that will best serve the anticipated growth of Meriwether County. Almost all of the sites shown on

the map are located where existing commercial endeavors are presently located. Many of the outlying sites reflect the convenience store type of business. It is recommended that similar businesses locate at these sites as a type of shopping center complex. In some areas, it is apparent that major retail development along state and federal highways is taking place rapidly. This "strip development" has had a negative connotation in many places where growth was not controlled. Meriwether County should urge complete compliance with all codes to alleviate unsightly development.
