§ 12.1. Thoroughfares

Latest version.
  • Meriwether County has a well developed network of highways and county roads which serve the residents of the county to a satisfactory degree. One federal route, US 27A, serves Meriwether County in a north-south direction, while eleven state highways transverse the county in many various directions. (see map). These state highways include 54, 41, 85E, 85W, 362, 100, 109, 18, 194, 173, and 190. The delineation of these routes is presented on the Map.

Numerous paved county roads connect various portions of Meriwether County with the state routes and US 27A. These numerous county roads and state routes dramatically increase the transportation mobility in Meriwether County.

Interstate 85 cuts through the northwestern corner of the county; however, at the present time there are no access or existing ramps serving Meriwether County. The lack of access to I-85 in Meriwether has been a barrier to not only mobility, but also to economic and population growth.
