§ 1101. Street geometric requirements.

  • Except as otherwise specified by county law, all streets shall meet the following geometric requirements:

    Sixty-foot wide right-of-way, legally deeded to the county.

    Thirty-foot wide, minimum total, road bed:

    A.

    Twenty-foot wide road base with a minimum six-inch compacted (one hundred (100) percent) approved soil or gravel base.

    B.

    Three-fourths-inch to one-inch, minimum thickness, triple surface treatment overlaid on compacted soil or gravel base, twenty-foot wide (No. 5's, No. 7's and No. 8's and No. 9's gravel layers, plus asphalt tar sealer and binder); or

    C.

    Three-fourths-inch to one-inch, minimum thickness, asphalt plant mix road surface overlaid on compacted soil or gravel base, twenty-inch wide (type G, GP1 or GP2, including bituminous materials; asphalt leveling plant mix, including bituminous materials; and using bituminous tack coat).

    Five-foot wide shoulders, each side, minimum, compacted soil or gravel.

    Five-foot wide inside slope to ditch, each side, three (3) to one (1) slope or less.

    Two-foot wide by two-inch deep ditches, each side.

    Six-foot wide outside slope to ditch, each side, one (1) to one (1) slope or less.

    All shoulders and slopes set out in grass: fescue, bermuda, or approved alternative.

    Drainage: A fifteen-inch, minimum diameter, by twenty-inch long, minimum, approved drainage pipe under all driveways, and sufficient cross-drain pipes to handle the flow of water from the ditches to the point of drainage as determined by topography of the site.

    This shall be subject to inspection and approval by the county road supervisor, with final approval resting with the Board of County Commissioners of Meriwether County.

    If subdivision streets are to be accepted into the public road system of Meriwether County, the following must be accomplished:

    1.

    Subdivision will be platted and recorded showing all street layouts, including street names.

    2.

    Streets will be graded, based, drained, paved, and grassed by subdivider to Meriwether County specifications.

    3.

    Streets will be accepted into the public road system under one (1) of the two (2) methods as listed below:

    A.

    Streets acceptable at expiration of twenty-four (24) months period from construction date with acceptance conditioned upon conveyance of sixty-foot right-of-way and satisfactory maintenance by owner as per county specifications during twenty-four (24) months period.

    B.

    Streets will be accepted into public road system upon construction completion according to county specifications upon receipt from owner of said streets of a deed conveying sixty (60) feet of right-of-way and performance bond in the amount of three dollars ($3.00) per linear foot for twenty-foot pavement and four dollars ($4.00) per linear foot for thirty-foot pavement. Said bond conditioned upon satisfactory maintenance of said streets for twenty-four (24) months period with twenty-four (24) months period commencing on date streets accepted by commissioners and recorded in the official minutes of said body.

    The above refers to subdivision streets. Not included is any street that would be classified as a through street. Through streets, though built by developer, would require different right-of-way widths and different specifications as to base, etc.

    Curb and gutter streets:

    Standard six-inch by twenty-four-inch raised edge.

    Twenty-four-foot pavement or triple surface treatment.

    Twenty-four-foot minimum back of curb to back of curb.

    Culverts shall meet county specifications:

    Galvanized pipe 01 or 12-gauge or concrete pipe C-2 or C-3.

    Culverts and cross-drains approved by county.

    Placement and size.

    Tail-ditch easements (minimum twenty (20) by two hundred (200)).
